Déjà vu – Camino Number Two!
It doesn’t feel like a dozen years, but this morning when the alarm went off at 5 am I was reminded of the snowstorm we drove through back in February of 2012 to get me off on my first Camino. I woke up with serious Déjà vu. No bad roads to worry about today on this beautiful September morning.
The cerveja I’m nursing on a long Toronto layover is a Pearson IPA, not quite hazy enough but local and still pretty nice. The price tag is more than what I plan to pay for a bed when I get to Portugal and I’m seriously considering ordering another. Such is life in airports.
Over 350,000 peregrinos walk the Camino de Santiago each year. The route I’ve chosen this year, the Portuguese coastal route, is the second most popular route.
The Camino Frances, starting in Saint Jean Pied de Port France was my last Camino and the most popular. Camino Frances is an 800 kilometres route. This Portugues route is “only” 300 kms. In deference to my advanced age, less than 5% of pilgrims are over 60, I have chosen this scenic, but abridged route this time around.
So I’m off, finally. Everything is familiar; the trepidation, excitement and feelings of great freedom and adventure.
What do you think, should I order the second beer? I’m going nowhere soon so I vote yes.
