🥂 “živjeli!” 🥂 we’re off to Croatia tomorrow, to live on a boat and cycle the country with 10 of our closest friends. Finally!
Meet the Crew
Good friends are truly a blessing. I’m not going to divulge all of our secrets, but we have quite a camaraderie here in Pinawa. We can plan a cocktail hour in the river at a moments notice. Want to picnic in the wilderness under a full moon? These are the people. Cycling the local trails is one of our things.
So it didn’t take much to convince us to plan a little more adventurous bike ride.
We are six couples, four from Pinawa and two with cottages in the area. Many of us have known each other for years, but it wasn’t until retirement that our deep friendship bloomed. Over the last decade we have shared some great adventures.
It all started with Louise musing aloud about a cycling trip in Europe. One thing led to another and now by the end of the month we will all be boarding the Dalmatinka for a week long adventure along the Croatian coast. Super yacht this won’t be, but we have private toilets and the bunk beds look acceptably comfortable. With only 20 passengers, I think the boat suits we intrepid travelers perfectly. The camaraderie of good friends, and maybe a bit of wine will see us through any hardships we might have to endure along the way.
The Itinerary
We are all off to Europe in different ways. Christine and Danny are already there, sending us gorgeous pictures from Crete. A couple of groups are going to check out Rome on the way home. The Reimer’s will be camping (glamping?) in Plitvice National Park.
Ray and I have elected to backpack around the Croatian coastline for a couple of weeks before the cycle trip, starting with the historic city of Dubrovnik.
By the end of September we will meet in Split. Our boat will take us north as far as Zadar. I imagine we will cycle all day and explore ports of call all evening. In between there should be swimming and snorkeling in the unusually warm Adriatic Sea.
